I've seen it it looks like little dirt pockets in the shape on a zebra stripe little 2 to 3 inch and its patterned.

My rx20 did it 360i did it and hoss to.

Usually only on a light colored thick nasty carpet!

Who or what cleaned it last time?
Customer doesn't remember the name of the previous cleaner, but a RE was not used and "zebra stripes" were also left by that cleaning. I didn't notice stripes before I cleaned, but a lot of soap in the carpet. His daughter's house is where I used 900 psi to get old soap out. Possibly same previous cleaner.

How long have you been operating the HOSS?

I have almost no experience with the HOSS but will say that it took me a little bit to get used to cleaning with the 360i. I've become MUCH more random with my cleaning strokes, paying lots of attention to the heavy traffic areas and not much where there is little soil. Always trying to keep the head as FLAT as possible.

I clean my way in, staying on the trigger almost constantly. When I've reached the far point of a room, I dry my way out, paying close attention to the "lines" being left behind by the dry pass. I usually don't rake anything until the very end and some customers LOVE to see these rooms with the swirls in the carpet before grooming.

After some practice I can say that what I once thought was a "streaking" issue was actually inexperience with the tool on my part.

I suspect the same thing might be happening here?

Stick with it. Rotary extraction has helped give me confidence that someone else would have a very hard time showing us up.

900 PSI sounds way too high to me. The 360i does best between 3-400 psi. I can't think of an instance where 900 psi would be helpful.

Maybe the HOSS is different?

Maybe someone is a hack?

;)

Russ: I got the Hoss about a year ago. Before the Hoss, I wore out a new RX20. I Have some experience with rotaries, but I'm always eager to learn new tricks.

Reread my original post. I increased pressure from 300 to 900 in 100 psi increments in an experiment to flush another carpet that had been left impacted to the base with soap. This was on another job and it worked well.

On open areas, I usually make three wet parallel passes, tilt the head to clear solution, then trace the three wet passes with dry passes. Three passes is the maximum width for me to comfortably reach across with the machine.

The soap could be what screwed you. While I've never seen it done with a rotary, I've seen a wand streak due to soap residue. I'm not sure if it foams and don't allow full spray pattern but something goes on there.

The spray goes in but the soap foams and prevents correct extraction leaving behind most of the dirt.

Lol!

I was kidding Johnny...about the hack part.

I seriously wasn't sure, though, how much experience you had with it.

My apologies

Gene's and Rick's ideas seem plausible. What rinse would work to prevent foaming? I used End Zone.

Joe, how do you stagger the plastic shoes? Together with steel? Lisa once told me worn/scratched plastic shoes can be more aggressive than steel shoes, and that is my experience.

Lisa, are GreenGlides for the Hoss on the horizon?

I actually use a powder defoamer which I rarely use, but I ran into one the other day loaded with soap.

I just take and sprinkle the defoamer powder right on the carpet and rake in a bit, and start cleaning....

seems to help.

also use the same trick on spilled laundry detergents...

I run mine around 450 to 500 PSI...no more...no less...
I run all long bars which allow me to take a bigger bite..
I run it in a oval shape......to the right ..up to the left..down to the right over lapping what I just did and back up to the left as I push forward..
that way it is impossible to streak and you are moving at a good speed.....
needle valve to control the flow..or medium orfice..........

sounds to me like you know what you are doing...you just might want to check the bars and make sure that they are all clear and are flowing the way they should...

try moving in the oval shape I tried to describe...once you get the hang of it you can go pretty quick and not have to worry about streaking.....

any problems..let me know and I will PM you my number...

Went back to the job with "zebra stripes" today. Yup, faint black stripes along the path of the Hoss. Customer said he cleaned it with his home unit, and another cleaner cleaned it since. The other cleaner also left stripes with his wand. Problem was lots of soap residue from one or both sources.

Vacuumed, sprinkled crystal defomer per Mark's suggestion, sprayed Zone Perfect, scrubbed with Brute and Tu-way pad, extracted with Greenhorn and End Zone, dried with Airpaths. Looked good when I left.

The key seems to be defoamer. Is it possible to add defoamer to prespray or rinse instead of sprinkling it on and raking it in?

Thanks to everyone, even Russ, and especially Mark and Gene who, I think, had the key idea. Next time I Hoss, (probably tomorrow morning)'I'm going to try Jim's pattern.

I have never tried prespraying the defomer, just always found sprinkling it and then activating it as I go working... Might have to try the other way sometime, but just find it so easy to sprinkle :)

I know BridgePoint has there Foam Defense.... They say you can add it to your pre spray, but I swear I read some where that @Scott W said you need to check the compatibility of your pre spray with it....

Foam Defense is a great defoamer to be added to your prespray. It actually boosts cleaning as well.

Foam Defense can be added to almost any prespray for carpet, tile & grout or whatever. Some encap presprays could have compatibility issues.

However, not many folks bought the Foam Defense. Not currently being made. Some distributors still have the product on their shelves.

I got 2 cases sitting on the shelf... Maybe I'll give it a whirl when I have a foamy situation..... Thanks Scotty!!

If I remember correctly we used to use alcohol in the rinse to knock down foam. now we just sprinkle the powder defoamer before hand. Easier
