I actually think brian would put more of the stuff that he learns to work for him... He does have energy (maybe a little much at times) and seems to try things that are suggested to him, so I don't know. Is this who would benefit most by this or another bd thing...

I would say I would have to flip a coin between Chris and Brian.

Yay!

I am the only one who gets to show off his pom-poms at SFS, Brian.

I except

Steve,
I really put some thought into my submission. I didn't want to go with the "I was born a small black child" type entry. Instead, I wanted to go with the "I will use the information to better myself and others" along with the "I will give my honest opinion and if warranted, I will tell the world how great the experience was and is" thing.
Really, as much as I participate on this board, I think it could be good for all interested.
What do you think big guy? Don't make me get all virtual on your bad self. :?

I didn't have any intention to have a type of sob story! I just wanted to give a somewhat real picture in who I was and where I was coming from....
I usually don't like it when people feel sorry for me! I just want to go to SFS!!!

Nice first try, Rob. And you get extra points for brutal honesty. BUT if ya wanna win with Big Billy ya gotta include some emotions, maybe even some drama and human pathos. Or you can follow the patented GC Method of pathetic groveling.

OR there is the "Snarky Sutley" approach of cynical sarcasm. Of course, all that will do for you, Rob, is win you last place in line for the MyEasyMarketing.com roll-out. Coming soon to your state unless you have the misfortune to live in Alabama. (However, I will reluctantly concede, and against my better judgment, that we will even include our famous 100% "no weaseling out and no pathetic excuses", cash-back-or-full-credit-on-anything-your choice Jon-Don guarantee to Mr. Sutley.)

PS I hear on good authority that with enough really good entries there may be some additional prizes handed out in this contest. So Rob, why don't you take another crack at it? You too, Marty. Extra points awarded for any submission that mentions Jon-Don's 100% no-pitiful-excuses guarantee.

Mention something about how you can't even afford a Guinness at the end of the day. That'll get his attention. Bring BDCC down to earth for Bill. If he realizes there are people out there deprived of their morning Starbucks and their evening Guinness it just might bring the poor guy to tears!

Sorry, Jay. Not to sound like a broken record but...

"if ya wanna win with Big Billy ya gotta include some emotions, maybe even some drama and human pathos. Or you can follow the patented GC Method of pathetic groveling." Your offer above, while useful and no doubt sincere, does not meet any of these criteria even though you are edging perilously close to the GC Method. (This fact should give you considerable pause.)

IB

PS Seriously Jay, just bite the bullet and sign up. Glen Gord is close to selling out the class and as close as you are it would be criminal to miss it. If you do win the free seat we'll cheerfully refund your money in full and with no pathetic excuses whining around how we have been victimized too.

Ouch, Jay. That had to hurt! Coming from the DR where our highly skilled dentist charges 20.00 US for a cavity I find it criminal the dental costs here in the US. But seriously, do whatever it takes to attend. If you doubt me, just ask the motley crew here who have attended what they think you should do.

PS Jay, why don't you give Glen Gord, our Dallas store manager a call. See what the two of you can work out so you can attend. I'll drop him an e-mail. We try to give MB members "special consideration" as long as they are not from Alabama.

Re: SFS Contest

I think I should go back to SFS. I have been in business for 7 years now and the first time I went to SFS in Roselle 08, I was completely overwhelmed with the experience of JonDon, Chuck, Bill, Steve and the complete JonDon crew with Nick heading the bunch. The whole week seemed like a blur to me (and no it wasn't the beer from our Tuesday evening party with Bill). I have been in customer service for most of my job careers. I have not experienced the customer service that I got from JonDon. After the week was almost over I realized that I had to fire myself on that Friday afternoon. As the saying at the bottom of my signature, I was going to find myself living in a van down by the river because I had been complacient with my business. After attending the class, it did help in some areas but still would like to learn again about the crunching of business numbers again, this time with my books in order. Also would like to learn more in the marketing part of the business as well (even if I give Bill a hard time about MEM). I would like to attend SFS again, this time as a completely different person and a different way of thinking. I think another time at SFS would be great. I learned alot the first time, but feel it may take another trip to SFS to really get a grasp on the complete running of my business. It's like seeing a great movie and then have to go back and see it again. You tend to catch more the second time. This time I promise not to mention Interlink in front of Bill!!

Little side note to Nick, JonDon needs to put a store in Denver!! Would love to see it closer and be able to attend some of the other classes as well.

Thank you for your consideration!!
Doug D. :D

Re: SFS Contest

Hello, here's my stab at it.
My name is Billy Lewis (Usa Wizard)I first became interested in this business back in 2005 with a strong desire to get out of the restaurant business. This desire was branded into me in June 2005 when I was my oldest son's best man and gave my heart felt toast to him. I spent alot of time getting ready for that 3 minute toast (I have a little stage fright problem) and during this organization of thoughts that I wanted to share I realized for the first time how much of my first son's life I had missed because of the 70-80 hours per week occupation in the restaurant business and mandatory weekend work with all holidays included! After dedicating 15 years to a Steakhouse chain, they were bought out by another company and I begin to watch my friends and associates get either demoted or fired for 2 years. Finally it hit me! I was the 30th district manager demoted after having worked the type of hours I did, drove 4k-5k miles per month and my family litterally took a back seat to my job for 15 years. I was demoted even though I had lead my district to the highest profit and highest sales for the entire company for over 8 years. On our trip back from my son's wedding in Raleigh NC I "knew" that a change had to happen in my life!
I looked at many opportunities for something that I could dive into that would allow me more time to spend with my 4 and 10 year old kids at that time (I wanted to watch my now 6 year old play t-ball and wanted to hear my now 12 year old daughter sing in church). After alot of time studying marketing, sales, equipment etc. etc. etc. I took my first IICRC class about 3 months before ordering my new Vortex. Now you remember, I was the guy that Shawn York suggested I cash out my 401k to buy a truck and a new future! Well, I didn't cash out my 401k but I did lease a new truck. And with the help of my true friend and mentor Ian Hopkings (The Real Wizard!) I started out in our new buisness. As you may know things were going great and we were on track to do about 140k our first year in business but on May 23rd, 2006 after having help an older friend haul in around 300 bales of hay in 95 degree weather, I got home in time to take a quick shower and head our for our 3rd shift cleaning job. On the way back from that job at 3 am I met the rear end of a semi that was pulling back onto the interstate after having taken a nap, I may have dosed at the wrong time and hit him from behind. He was going 10mph I was going 70 well, you know the result. I mashed up my pretty new truck and me as well, after cutting me out of the pile of crumbled metal that used to be my Nissan UD (Thank God I am alive today!) I was out for almost 6 months and even though some friends helped me keep up with my accounts I decided to get out of the business probably mainly because of mental battles I was struggling with. I decided to go back into the restaurant business and this is when my "nightmares" begun. After alot of talks with my oldest son Brandon I decided to spend 1 year back in this business and then decide what to do with my career. In Sept. 2007 on our 12 year old daughters birthday my wife and I flew to California to pick up our new "used" Vortex. I gave my job a 5 months notice of my intent to leave and started doing jobs on my time off from my 65 hour restaurant job. Finally I was able to start catching up financially from getting far far behind in the past 1.5 years. I was using my 401k monies to make ends meet and I finally decided to cash most of it out to buy this truck and pay for it so I wouldn't have any truck payments. Thankfully I cashed this out just before the last market crash so I probably saved enough to pay for half of my new truck, so no regrets there. Afterall if I hadn't made this choice the 401 would have ended up in our "leach line" if you know what I mean.
When purchasing my new re-start up equipment I was helped by some truely "Amazing" people that helped me out in every way possible because I was getting back in. Thanks to (and I hope I don't leave out anyone, and in no particular order) Greenie, Joe Brewster, John Olson, Bridgepoint of Louisville, Mikey P., Steve Toberan, and alot of my old accounts for accepting me back. However, a very special thanks to Ian Hopkins and his family, they stood with us all along the way and he has gave and gave and gave. Anyone in this business that does not truely know Ian Hopkins doesn't know what they are missing. I know and this is from the inner parts of my soul how great an individual he is, and I cannot possibly thank him enough for everything that he has done for our family and me.
Now, I would very much like to win this SFS course so that I could go, and take my friend, partner in life and in business my wife Heather. We have dedicated litteraly everything to this business and feel grateful to have another opportunity to make a go of it again, we enjoyed the sit down family dinners at 5pm (we had never experienced this before!). I enjoy studying and implimenting things learned and know that our company, myself and my wife would benefit greatly from this opportunity and would not let any of it go to waste.

Thank You,
Billy Lewis

Wow. Yeadon is weeping into his Guiness as he reads this. I can't stand a sloppy drunk.

PS Seriously, folks, we need more drama, more angst, more tears. Let the good times roll. Do I see a poll coming up to help us choose the winner?
