Yes, this hose says right on it, Not for Steam. My thermostat, that activates my dump valve for cooling, failed. I was getting well over 250F at my heat exchanger. It really spiked one day and I was blowing steam. It bubbled, or bubbed , the outer wrap. The hose itself seems to fine yet.
I do like the weight and the flexibility of this hose. The outer covering gets a little sticky so it doesn't slide well on itself, but it lays out nicely. No coiling.
I'd post a pic but not sure how.

It is an issue. The question is what temperature it actually reached.

We have been over 250'F with several TMs for 6 months and not seen any blistering.

The cleaner using it might be a whole different story. That bad boy pops and scalds someone with that printed right on it, might be difficult to defend oneself. ???

I realize Steam and HWE are two different things to you and I. However we market ourselves as Steam Cleaners.

We have repaired hundreds of wire-braid hose leaks from large Vortex TM's.

Some had fuel oil heating systems.

Rare that a steel braid hose will burst but not unheard of the ends popping off as it softens from excessive heat.

The question remains does any supplier want to be responsible to sell a hose that is machine specific.

And I think you guys are a little over paranoid about the steam. Which hose is stronger when it's rated at the same max temp if it exceeds it's maximum capacity? Both are rated at 250f. Hydroforce's steel braided or This thermoplastic hose? Keep in mind that if it's that hot, the steel braided has already burned a line in the carpet

I would be very concerned about Ron Werners hose. Think of blowing up a balloon, when you initially blow it up it takes alot of effort, subsequent times it is much easier. That hose will not take the same heat and pressure that it initially did. With Ron's hose there would now be two strikes against him if he continued to use it. (1)Not to be used for steam, as the Desk Jockey said we market steam cleaning. (2) you would be using a hose that is visibly damaged, if someone was to get hurt from it who do you think would be on the hook?

They burst frequently due to inner tube failure & rusting of steel braid (black death) .

We had one customer who has blown quality crimps off of two different wire-braid hoses the last few days.

One of the hoses we tried was rated at 275'F @ 3000 PSI.

That is a sudden release with more potential.

Excessive heat will damage any hose.

P.S. Burst test on quality new hose is over twice rated pressure.
Our new blue hose is 4 to 1 or 12,000 PSI test at manufacturer.

His problem came about when his John's Custom HX sensor failed and let the unit get too hot for too long. he has a "blister" at the machine end of the hose which he is not concerned about. He feels the clear cover has nothing to do with the integrity of the hose, and if it were to blow, it's at the machine where (maybe) no one will get hurt.

Larry is correct, Ron should cut off that section of hose.

Likely freeze damage in those cases, due to the recent unusual (for TX) deep freeze.

Larry, what is your opinion of the importance of the clear cover?

I believe it's generally recommended if using parker or thermoplastic hose that a section(50' for us) steel braid hose comes off the truck first due to heat at the machine.

The clear cover is a wear layer to protect the braid.

The working strength of the hose is in the reinforcing braid.

For TM's with poor temp control, I would use a 50 ft. of wire braid at the TM.
It was required with the Parflex. Less of an issue with the 250'F temp rating of this new hose.

Just to get this going, here's what was happening the day the outer covering bubbled. If you look at the temp guage when I first show it, its 250F PLUS. The guage spun around.
Notice the exhaust pipe under the heat wrap. Its glowing red. So its hot!

The affected area is at least 10-15ft away from the truck fitting. I still feel this hose will last for a couple years even after this overheat.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy another length or to recommend it. Its super flexible, it does take the heat. If you're truck is running the kind of heat that mine did, you need to tone it down. There's no need for that high a heat.

Thanks for showing everybody the ~300 degrees F on your temp gauge in the video.

Looked like pure steam for about 20 sec or so.

Even with those extreme conditions the crimp held, while most other thermoplastic hoses would have come apart.

I have done plenty of testing @ 250'F w/1500 PSI to stimulate restaurant grout cleaning, with the hose performing well.

and I know all about the crimps not holding on Parflex. I've had similar malfunctions where the heat has spiked and I'm blowing live steam. Using the orange Parflex, the hose blew off the crimp each time. Doesn't look like there is even an issue with this hose other than the covering.
