I find it amusing that as business owners we put emphsis on hiring people with no tattoos. However, I find that most of the wives and/or girlfriends of business owners have them! Interesting double standard... (fyi. my wife does not)
Anyone else see this trend? lol

Its all about image. Many customers we service don't have them and look down on them. I have heard comments from customers about former cleaning technitions having them. They wonder if the person is right out of prison. They don't feel comfortable with them in their house.

Granted most people with tattoos are really nice people that love art and are using as a way to express themselves. However if mrs. Jones doesn't feel that way it can be business suicide to send them in the home.

I would have no problem hiring someone with tattoos if they were in a place that could be covered. Even having them wear a long sleeve shirt if they had arm tattoos. I have had people interview before however that have had tattoos up their neck and even on their hands. I just wouldn't feel comfortable sending that person in a home.

around where I live, it seems like everyone is getting tatted, its getting pretty bad around here, because personally I find tattoos disgusting. nothing can ruin a pretty girl like a tramp stamp over the ass, or a tattoo somewhere else. with more tattoos also comes seeing some pretty darn distasteful ones.

that will probably offend some around here, sorry I guess thats just a habit of mine around here.

This is something I thought about not for employees, but for myself. I am working on a half sleeve that goes up and onto my chest area, the tattoo is imagery that tells the story of my life. I put off doing it because I wanted to be PC and was worried I might offend a customer. I thought about it for a long time until I decided that its not fair to me to not have that just because of a very few people that might care... But there is a point where if youre one big tattoo, I can see that raising some red flags.

It's more and more accepted....except by our main demographic.

Yes, some of the 40 year olds will have tats on the lower back etc...But they don't want Jethro with sleeves cleaning in their home while hubby's at work.

My wife doesn't have one, she refused a tramp stamp that said "Property of Chavez Restoration"
Go figure???
LOL

P.S. I think it's a generation thing, I see it as ruining a great piece of art.

The lord made her this way adding a tattoo isn't excactly an improvement.

Now bigger breastessessssss.....maybe?
;)

A couple on a forearm is ok, most military people have them but not a mike tyson face tat or anything drug/gang related.

Not a double standard at all. What someone's wife or girlfriend does has no bearing on what a tech should look like. The girlfriends isn't a tech representing the company in someone's home.

If I wore Joseph's Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to people's homes I'd expect a few to be offended and a majority to think I was an idiot. If I tattooed portions of it on my body those percentages would go up a few points.

Tats that you can't cover? Don't expect to be welcome everywhere you go. It isn't a prejudice that the viewer needs to get over, the person with tats has chosen to "make a statement" knowing that it may offend others, and those others get to make their own choice in how they view that decision.

Back in the American day when the women were straight & the chrome was thick only military men wore them, they returned from fighting nazi's & them little yellow fellers and many started & joined motorcycle clubs. They cloned & became members of the penal system.

I have anchors on one forearm and a hot naked Sarah Palin on the other.

What's that smell???? OH-never mind-it's only HARPER!!!!! People who choose to get tatted do it for their own personal reasons....... i highly resent your "SHEEP" statement. You would be amazed at the number of people in the "professional" world who are packing tats. To show-or not to show???? i agree-keep them where you can cover them-but just because you have them DOES NOT make you a looooser-or a damn tramp. You don't like "TRAMP STAMPS", THEN DON'T LOOK!!!! ( But you know your gonna.....)

LOL at Lisa. I have no tats, I have no moral reason and nothing against them but have made a habit of making employees cover theirs.

While we are on the subject of EMPLOYEES and tatts-and TECHS-do you guys require your employees to shave and keep their hair presentable as well????? Do they wear jeans and company shirts-or some type of uniform????? Do you supply and pay for the uniform, or do your employees????? What are your different company standards????

Im hardly a big employer (never more than 2 at a time) but I do require them to shave, brush their teefs, and keep their hair decent. I battled with having them wear company polos tucked in but got tired of it and switched to tees

Yep-mine won't keep theirs tucked in either  We have nice black polo's-nice company logo on the front-real professional until they turn around - somehow there was a mix up and they ended up with the words "WET CARPET" across the back. We all wore them with pride-but boy did we take a rash'ocrap!!! Especially we females on the crew. i will have to post a picture-maybe auction them off on E-Bay. What carpet cleaner wouldn't want a shirt that said "WET CARPET" on the back????? We made it a year and finally got new ones last week-they say "WET FLOOR". shiteatinggrin

Yes, clean shaven, no beards, hair doesn't have to be short but trimed.

Dri-fit polo's, cargo route pants, On Call T-shirts, 5-sets each....plus a light jacket, a hooded fleece, a winter coat, gloves and hat....................... a rain poncho, rain boots, PPE Bag (including personal full face respirator), cell phone (Smart phone for crew leaders and supervisors), plus a much of other miscellanous stuff, I'm guessing close $1,000.00 a tech. thathurts

No Tats here.....I'm to ADHD to live with one forever....have you seen how many times I've changed my mind just in the carpet cleaning biz?? shiteatinggrin

Having tats are in the same realm of Cigarette smoking, being gay and abortions.

If your'e not one, don't do or have one......You don't understand and therefore you're not cool....In they're eyes.

I disagree of course....It's just the way the thinking goes I've found.

Ever been around a smoker who calls non smokers "pussies" because you don't want to smell it?

Or you say one thing bad about having a dick in your ass and suddenly you're a homophobe?

Cracks me up the mentality of some people.

Geez Bri- Were they a little tough on you at Church Sunday????? Having Bart Simpson tatted on their right azz cheek does not mean they are (1) going to Hell or (2) a liberal. Just because you probably drive a big van does not make you a stalker or child molester-Does it????
