Hey guys just bought a used thermal wave ii and its missing the 180 degree thermal valve right under the water box. Long story short I decided to run the machine with out it and test water pump. I turned the heat off so I wouldnt damage the pump. When engaging the water pump I get no pressure reading. I installed a new gauge bc the previous one got damaged in shipping. Machine cuts off after 5 seconds do to no pump pressure. I have determined the clutch works properly bc it does ingagae and spin the pump. Maybe I have it plumbed wrong? Could it be the pressure regulator is bad? I even tried direct feeding the pump with a water hose with pressued turned down really low. The part I'm missing is part number 15 and I dont want to pay 450 for a new one. Can I bypass it?

I have the exact same machine...first thing I would do is to pull the check valves in the cat pump and make sure they are not stuck open or have a broken spring...

also if someone ran it with out the thermvalve and over heated the cat pump it prbably melted the seals on the inside.....look under the pump and see if it looks like melted plastic....

Thanks jim I'm gonna go pull the cat now and inspect the internals. I'll give you a call if I run into anything interesting

That check valve almost looks brand new but there should be a total of 6... Take a mirror and lay it underneath the head of the pump where that little plastic cup is and see if there looks like melted plastic

if you push down in the center of the check valve and it opens and closes then it is fine...right now I am still leaning towards your water got to hot for the seals....more so because you did not have a therm valve to help regulate the heat in the water box and who knows how long someone ran it with out one.....or...if you look on top of the head of the pump...there are 3 oil ports that someone may have never oiled and it got to hot and melted it.........

Pull everything apart no melted seal that I could see.... I'm thinking I have a clog at this point

ok I have a thermalwave 11 vortec looks like the same one you have Jim. Been running it for three years or more accurately tech running it for last year and it’s been pretty neglected tbh. I have never seen, heard of or oiled those three holes .
is that in the service manual?

it is on the one that comes with the pump.....and there is a sticker on top of the pump that tells you to put a few drops in every month.....

Ajr might be right jim if he has the same pump as me it doest have oil holes. My pump is the 5cp3120 and it just has an oil fill hole that's it

the 340RS has been on mine since the day it was made....the 3000 at the end is for high temp seals.....

Yep I noticed that the manual calls for the 340 but for whatever reason mine has the 5cp3120

, which if I remember correctly cannot handle the high heat very well... mine can because it's designed with high heat seals... ... I was misinformation one time and was told that the one you have was all they were making for that machine.... It lasted me less than a year.....
