Heat is nice. but I think as with anything else, it is just part of a combination of several things put together to make up your final grime getter.
I have seen first hand just a few weeks ago in fact what TOO much heat can do, so 180-200 ATW is plenty good for me.

With the right chemistry, dwell time, and agetation all you have to do is rinse. What temperature is hot water to you Michael? I have no problems at 190 and that's pretty hot. For carpet I'm not a heat freak either even though I have it. I like 240 at the Truck and 220 at the wand.

you can get better results with good chemicals and cold water than you can with no chemicals and hot water. BUT, a combo of both works best. I used to use a bucket heater when I couldn't get hot water. Just a coil you plug into the wall and put in the bucket of water and it gets it steaming hot. Only used it on certain jobs, then I ended up finding better chemicals and just used the warmest water I could get from the tap. No truck mount.

I say use whatever works for ya...I speak from what works over a 16 year period of only cleaning tile and grout and very little carpet cleaning...Heat @ 200 and average high alkaline chemical is what I've been using...nothing fancy shmancy either...
Most of my grout cleaning jobs (85%) could be cleaned with heat only to tell you the truth...Once I tried, and it worked...I use the chemical more for the show and sanitary part of service...Again, whatever ever works for ya...Good Luck!
