I wasn't fit to step in that man's shadow....I haven't told half the stories of that man's compassion and decency. Some are just too personal. My guess is many of you have stories like that too.

I guess, much like myself, he would still find time to be with family, have hobbies, vacations, run a biz AND make time to be here with his pals.

You knewKen was educated by his use of words like touché ...but he never talked down to anyone.

A story I can share:

I had lunch with Ken the first day we met. I remember it was at one of the first shows Joe Polish spoke at; he was still wearing the long ponytail and swearing on stage more than he does later in his career...that's a frame of reference for when that must have been

in any event, another individual at our table pulled out a calculator to come up with some equation we were looking for, and Ken did it in his head first.

I was impressed so I asked him if he was really good at math. I got one of his famous "aw shucks" looks and he said people told him he was good with math.

we started giving him complex math problems and he rattled off the answers quicker than we could check with our calculators.

I never had seen the like of it before or since.

Of course he had to change the subject over to us after that....most of you know he never focused much on himself...except maybe to tell a joke at his expense.

Oh, and of course meeting Ken and Joe both for the first time that day was an experience in contrasts.

Steph and I were in Detroit last summer for a weekend and went out to dinner with Ken and Marci in Greektown. After dinner Ken saw a dead rat in the middle of a busy street. He dodged traffic with two sticks in hand picking up the rat, then taking it to the side of the street and covering it with a old newspaper. For those who don't know Ken or don't know him well that tells you, a guy who would go through that much for a dead street rat, how he treated people. I feel honored to have known you, I am devestated to have lost you, and I'll see you on the other side.

I first met Ken at Connections in 2006, MB had just started a month earlier.
We were still giving each other shit on ICS back then and had never talked.

He had two goons with him who I thought were going to take turns punching me in the throat...

I later learned one of them was Hanna..lol

Sorry to hear this Brian, condolences to you, Ken's family and all those close to him. He will be missed here on the board. He was at a level of business few here could relate to, but always replied to our questions whether it was to a o/o or a multi truck business with the same level of kindness, professionalism, and sincerity.

Sincerest condolences to Ken's family & friends.

I did not know Ken and had never spoken to him. I only knew him from what I've read on the board. But yet I have a heavy heart for everyone's loss, especially his family.

I learnt a huge amount from Ken's posts and for that I am truly thankful. I remember finding the Ken Snow "in the hotseat" interview and being so happy that I did. I had been waiting for this and didn't realise it had been done before I found Mikey's bumped thread. Ken helped and was well liked by people he never even knew.

The industry has lost one of its Bright Stars.

This is just awful, I feel a huge loss.

I considered Ken a friend and I hope he consider me on also. We grew up in the same era and would laugh about those times as we exchanged experiences. Like he did for many here he helped me with marketing. He was always free to exchange ideas and to critique my pieces, caring as if it were something of his own.

I’ll miss him greatly but feel grateful for getting to know him.

When it comes to things that make him emotional and sad, my father is a man of very few words.

When I told him about Ken this morning, Lee composed himself and simply said

"He was a rare man, who had both a great mind and a great heart"

It's been awhile since I logged in. This was NOT what i expected to read! Ken's posts were always my favorite. he was one of the most generous men i have ever met. he was always qucik to share his advice expertise. I had no idea he had cancer. Amazing....
This is a very sad day for me.
Seems like all the class acts are dying these days........
God speed Ken. May we all remember the the lessons you have taught us.....

Amen Bob. Jim's post about Ken and his posts in general are always spot on. Having just talked with Ken about 6 weeks ago and him not even mentioning that he was sick, is typical of what I had come to expect from him. I am honored though to have had a part in his last article for Cleaning and Maintenance Management Magazine - August edition. Ken was such a geniune person who always had time for me and will be greatly missed.

My deepest sympathies to each and every friend and family member. Ken left a huge void that we may never live to see fully filled. He had a lot more to give than to gain here, and most likely why he spent so much time on the boards - to give back to the industry, to give back to all of us.

My god I didn't read this thread after he noted he was okay on another. He was definitely a man amongst us boys. He was a leader, hard worker, referee and a true business man and a great person all around. It makes me sad I stopped my weekly discussions(maybe improved his quality of life) because he taught me so much
