I'm just stunned with the amount of idiots and basement dwelling pot smoking pajama boys I've been inundated with. The hiring pool has become slim it seems. In my listing I stated "Send resume". I keep getting these replies, "Call me" with a phone number. Channeling my inner @Radar Foster i'm now responding back, "The listing stated to send your resume. This was a test for applicants to see if they can follow simple directions. You failed"

I can believe how many people post pics of themselves drunk and smoking dope. I guess it's a good thing because I weed them out fast. I've got a few good ones I'll be interviewing tomorrow.

Well Mr $200 minimum, try running the ad with $20 /hr to start and see if the job applicant volume thus optimal candidates improve

when you find a keeper, it will be worth the money

and it won’t cost you much additional from low ball starting pays in the $15 range cause you won’t keep them more than a week or two if theyre a dud

On my commercial side had a recent applicant say I really want the job but I don't sweep or mop..

And I like an adult beverage but I've never showed up to an interview at 2pm drunk, my 2nd applicant..

I'm interviewing one guy that looks promising. Got another one that doesn't even have his GED, I'll probably pass on him. I'm not painting myself into a corner this time. They MUST have a driver's license and a clean driving record.

Hope it goes well. Working at the parts placed I interviewed quite a few peeps mostly idiots and the ones that seemed good disappointed but after a few fails we got a few really hard and good workers.

The millennials want to work -
Tuesday-Thursday
11:00 am - 3 pm
Starting wage of 120k/ year
Company phone
Company CC
Company car...
want 100% benefit package from day 1..
6 weeks paid holiday after 4 months
Raises every 2 months
Can call in sick WHENEVER they feel the need
Allow them to surf the net, play on social media, shop, or talk on their phone, WHILE working...
God forbid you even mention their performance, because every task they do is perfect....
You think I’m joking????
This was told to me by an individual that’s the building manager @ a tech company I do work for....
It snows indoors daily inside buildings like this all the time....
Powderpuff, snowflakes....

I hope the new guy wants to drive the company 1971 F-250 around. I should install a 3-on-the-tree tranny just for giggles.

Yea sounds like your cost of living is high over there. We pay my right hand well and he’s gold. Different field than just cleaning but same works for most industries

My 63 ford was three on the tree what a fun ride. Cept for the drum brakes in the rain puddles!

If it was easy to find good workers, there wouldnt be money in it. Just remember how tough it is to find one when you do find the right one, then reward them for it. I have had better luck with responsible parents, and older folks. My generation is mostly useless.

We have had more than few tell us what they will or won't do. It's usually close to the last conversation we have with them.

Have a friend who paid his guy $20 an hour.
Lasted a little while but would show up late or not show up at all.

That $20 an hour in kalifornica is only about $5 an hour here.

A friend of mine was between jobs last job paid over 90 grand. He had a job iined up but worked with me 2 months this summer. I paid him $15 an hour. Best worker I've had.

He was the guy who talked me into going to the strip club the night of my last DUI.

Yeah, I just don't get it!

We offer a relatively low wage, inconsistent hours, zero benefits, basically no upward mobility, and back-breaking, low prestige work.

Just so crazy that it's so hard to find stellar employees. I guess no one wants to work these days!

You have to ask yourself, "would I work for that?" If the answer is "hell no", why do you think you're going to get anyone good? If you're going to get someone reliable, you have to pay them a living wage for you're area. You also have to consider medical benefits, what the state laws are about vacation pay, overtime, etc. Employees aren't cheap but you need them to expand. A good example here, there was a mom & pop bagel and coffee shop complaining about how hard it is to get employees. When asked what she pays, she says she starts them at minimum wage. The problem here is, on every street corner we have a Starbucks, Macdonalds or Wendy's or some other type of fast food enterprise. She's competing against all of them for the same employee. If she can't offer anything more substantial, she is always going to struggle.

Damon would you mind describing your dream technician?

@The Great Oz, please describe yours after Damon does.
I have no dreams anymore. I’d be happy if the guys actually showed up for the interview. I was at the shop this morning at 7:30am ready for the meet and greet. No shows. Got another one later this afternoon. I have high hopes for him. Former fire fighter and well driller.

I know no-one is perfect. I don’t have outlandish expectations. I do expect clean, punctuality, and able to converse while breathing through their nose between sentences. Maybe no tats on the neck.
