Everyone's dream technician is probably the same: Polite, clean person that shows up on time and cares enough to do a good job.

My favorite starting candidates are people in their late twenties that have come to grips with the uselessness of their macro-anthropology degree and have found that restaurant hours don't work when you have a kid. They've experienced a good dose of reality, pick up on things quickly, and just want a steady job that pays well.

I have a hiring bias against former small business owners, construction workers and Canadians.

On the hunt myself. A great worker called and is unable to continue due to health reasons. Pretty bummed. Nothing like good dependable people. It’s chaotic season to boot

A lot of the illegals around here are really good workers.

same here
The majority in fact

the small few I know well enough to know a little , are also good family men with solid traditional values .
We don't have the large communities of Hispanic here.
so there's little of the criminal element that soils some of the major SW cities

most are here to work, not sling dope or be gangsters

It helps to look at wages of other seme skilled trades. We do janitorial for a major shipping company. They start close to 30 an hour and in 4 years make over 45 an hour. With amazing benefits. Tough to compete with that. It's not like that job requires years of training or school. It takes a clean cut person in decent shape with a good driving record. The same requirements that you guys want. 12 bucks an hour wont attract anyone I'd want in my home.
At the same time, I've overpaid people before for no good reason. Just because you pay them well doesent mean they will become better employees.

there are different markets though. Out here minimum wage is $11 / hr going to $12 on January 1st

and you’re not getting anyone of value under $15

its my experience that without exceptional pay you aren’t going to attract exceptional candidates
Shit our minimum wage is 7.25 over here guess I'm way off with my prices but I'm saying pay more then minimum and you should attract some decent help. Pay way more then min wage and possible attract some great help.

I worked in heavy construction for 18 years before I got into professional cleaning.
I would NEVER bring 98% of the guys I worked with into the homes I service now.
The industry draws some of the worst of the worst society has to offer.
It was an almost weekly occurrence, the police would show up at a worksite, warrant in hand for one of these guys...
The charges were all over the board....
You NEVER brought personal items onto site, cause by the end of the day, they would disappear...
Most onsite shacks were locked between breaks...
We are not talking about some 3rd world country...
I never said hire construction workers that was reference to show how easy our work is compared to construction work. Cleaning carpet isnt rocket science you just need some who's willing to be on time clean and professional, and have a desire to do well that's all.

WTH kind of "shipping" company is it?

I believe someone told you that.
But I also believe they're blowing smoke up your azz ...or aren't telling the whole story . (like that hourly figure INCUDES their cost of all bennies and retirement funding)

cause they'll have hard time convincing me the dude loading trucks trains 'n planes is making $90k a year for a 40 hour work week

I've seen their payscale. Every personal truck in the yard is a 50-75k dollar truck. That does include a few bucks for union membership and retirement, but it's a fact. Guess how much it costs to buy a well optioned ford ranger these days? Close to 40k bucks. That's a landscaper truck. It's easy to forget how much things have changed in 10 years.

Miners here in Nevada earn 100k-130k per year. Sweat, blood and tears is a requirement... Yes you can make that the first year on the job. .

The I think experience and qualifications dictate the wide pay scale range from $ 23k-133k

I got a hundred bukz that says that not a 40 hour work week
What difference does that make? They allow double shift, overtime a few times a year. Carpet cleaning companies cant compete with that..

Salaried manager paper pusher make way less for 70 hour a week for some obsecure companies.

I rather drill and blast if i could.

Unfortunately, there is still a shortage of worker because they dont put forth effort in blood sweat and tears. After five years, ya basically get to be a supervisor or the driver for CAT dump truck hauling all that minerals with better pay and benefits with ease. Its a good job i wouldve taken if they bothered to hire me...
