Today had a new employee ask if he would get paid during the time we were going to close for Covid-19 break. I told him to stop watching the news, and then realized we probably should make some kind of statement to our employees.

Downtown Seattle is a ghost town, restaurants are closed, techies working at home, even the transients are gone as there's no one to bum money from. This is dead time for a lot of businesses anyway, and I think many are closing so they don't have the expense of paying employees or even keeping the lights on. They might be upside-down financially a little less than if they stayed open, and they get some PR as another "victim" of the virus.

I was listening to Glen Beck on the way home. He's in full panic mode. Says we are 50 days out from a total explosion in the USA. I hope he's wrong.

still at 5 confirmed cases here I think, as an island nation we'd be easy to self quarantine but no..

lots less tourists around, you'd think it was middle of our winter

Why is there so much concern for this virus that has killed about 25 (sorry, don't follow the MSM at all for 3.5 years) so far when we've had influenza that kills about 35,000 per year every year including 100,000 dead in 1990 and we have been pretty silent on that issue?

BTW, no interruption in business here. Doing quite well after our best winter ever. (47 years in biz)

Super busy winter. We had the best February than ever, by far. Phone went dead this week. I’m sure it’s related to the virus and what’s happening in the market.

I did get a call from a client who manages a large school wanting to clean and DISINFECT all area rugs and walk-off mats. IMO this could kill business or the phones will ring off the hook.

because if it has a similar infection rate to influenza 900 thousand people would die (potentially) in the US. That is a lot of grandma and grandpas.

that is based on your 35000 number and an influenza average mortality rate of .01%

coronavirus seems to spread fairly easy and there isn't a vaccine to slow it

beyond the mortality rate you have issues like continued economic impact/lost production, hospitals overwhelmed, etc

They are now saying that 30 percent of the population may get it. Most will get over it but elderly and those with weaker immune systems are at risk. Smokers beware.

2 died yesterday in Florida. Both Elderly and had traveled.
Doubt that you have to travel to find it though.
I think it's probably been here for awhile...the world vacations here.
I would bet many here have already had it and got over it. Like the regular flu.
I got super sick out of nowhere in the middle of January and my flu test came back negative and I had every symptom of the new virus and had a lingering cough for about two and a half weeks. I think it was here before it was a crisis in china and now a world wide pandemic. Hearing the nhl is going to follow the nbas footsteps and I was supposed to be going to the Wild game tonight to see mikeys team lose...

Well I just ordered another gallon of PureForce EPA quat. Although I think this thing is in full scale overblown panic mode I’m not taking any chances.

Only booked 2 jobs in the last 6 days since we have a Case in our area. I was booked 2 weeks out working 6 days a week. Looks like I might get an early vacation. Should have gone ahead and scheduled my gallbladder surgery.

As of right now in Ohio, the governor has closed schools for the next 3 weeks. So we'll see how that works for people locally. Going to guess it will be a chit show since many are barely just getting by here and need to have both parents working.

I hope that the common sense advice on hygiene sticks around after this has passed..

Stay home if sick

Don't sneeze uncovered

Wash hands often.
We just came back from a Princess cruise the towards the end of January. You can't believe how many guys leave the bathroom, some after coming out of a stall without washing their hands. It would infuriate me but my wife told me not to say anything. I should have followed them around the ship and told their wives but I would probably be sued.
I would get out and watch the cleaning crews working in the wee hours of morning and i was impressed watching these guys work. They wipe down everything including handrails, walls, counter tops, ceilings and most surfaces anyone would touch. What they don't wipe down is pressure washed and all the decks are scrubbed and or pressure washed.
It's not the cruise lines to blame but a bunch of mostly lazy my butt has no germs Americans. They should place armed guards at all the bathroom doors and at the entry to the dining areas.

I was at a show some years back. Sitting next to me was a husband and wife. As different men walked by or sat at our table or others, the husband quietly pointed at a few and was saying: "Him...him...yeah HIM, can you believe it?...Him too..."

I asked what was going on..

He said: "I tell her all the guys who don't wash their hands in the bathroom so she knows who to avoid..."

I hate to say, but women are right when they say: "Men are pigs"

I can only imagine the germs in a men's bathroom sink. I try and not touch anything including my dick in many places.
