Don't ask me why but Dev filters work better this way

Plz explain your theory.
the secondary filter is a FILTER, so you would loose that filtering efficiency IE more stuff in the waste tank. So if you purchased the Devastator for filtering, then you loose some of that capability.

And its not a theory, its a fact.

Talk about airflow! I had the silver bullet Devestator, but the puddling at the bottom of it was very annoying, and sloppy to change out bags. This gives me maximum performance and is easy to swap out bags.

each day I replace the paint strainer. I also rinse out the secondary filter. I find that the secondary filter still catches a lot of debris which would otherwise go into the waste tank.

I dont have drying time issues so it is a mute point to do a test to remove the secondary filter to gain airflow.

However tomorrow I will put the band of the paint strainer on the outside of the filter to see if there is any difference.

What is this and where does it go? And where do you get this? Thanks !!
It fits into the waste tank directly under the intake ports. My AquaTech nits came with a metal basket which would catch the debris entering the tank. I cut off the bottom of the baskets, leaving just the top lip to hold the paint strainers.
With this setup, I have full airflow around the strainer. As the tank fills, the debris gets submersed in the dirty water, but there is still plenty of airflow.
