Since you chimed in and live in the desert, has this ever happened to you?


I have seen area rugs dry out side get stiff some times. Chalked it up to much chemical and fresh water rinsed

Same with a few wall to wall carpets.

Just went back and rinsed.

Makes sense though because you didnt use any thing that should do that.

What if it really has never been cleaned and somehow the residues from loom oil or factory protector got it stiff?

If you took the stiff towel from drying outside and ran it in the dryer, after some tumbling it will be soft. It just breaks the left over minerals from the water.
That's what a good vacuuming and or a CRB may do without the rinse.
Did you try that?
