Joe;

We are planning a Direct Head-to-Head Cleaning Challenge with

ETM Escape vs. Gas-Powered TM at Nick's BBQ, April 20

(assuming Mytee ships us one by then).

I think the ETM will have more vacuum, when we test CFM at the wand.

The conventional TM will have the Advantage on Heat.

We will have both #3 and #4 Blower TM's to compare to.

Accurate Digital Vac Gauge we will be using:
View attachment 1813

The BBQ will be in Wichita Falls, TX.

Larry

P.S. We also have some customers using the Escape;
if anyone want to talk to an actual user.
Instead of using gauges, test to see how well the carpet dries. Use a clear tube at the wand, and see if you can extract additional moisture from the carpet after one full dry pass with each machine.

Although a gauge gives you the performance, the end result is what counts!

Does the ETM perform the task at hand - getting the carpet clean, and give a reasonable dry time.

With all respect, Bob . . .

Clear tube results are not a scientific test.

The digital vac gauge we used last year was very good at determining differences of vacuum at the Wand.

Here is the graphs from last year's TM blower testing:

They were all tested with 100 ft. of hose and the same wand.

...and Larry, with all due respect to you...

Does that gauge tell you how much water you are extracting?

NO.

A visual (or observation) of what is going on would also be included in a complete scientific test (hypothesis), along with your gauge readings- IMO.

The steps of the Scientific Method are:
Observation/Research
Hypothesis
Prediction
Experimentation
Conclusion

So a 45 outperforms a 47?

If I remember correctly, the 45 was set at 17hg, and the 47 was set at 14hg.

Now, this brings up a question for me, Because there's a couple smart guys on here who set there big blowers at 12hg

They say no reason to go higher?

How is the reading taken?

To be accurate, I believe you would have to put gauge in series, at the wand, while you were actually cleaning.

Yeah a greater explanation of that test would be appreciated. in what way did the 45 out perform the 47?

Here is the original post on the blower testing:

http://mikeysboard.com/forum/showth...-TM-Blower-Testing&highlight=spotting+contest

The point now, is we are going to test the Escape ETM against a gasoline powered TM at the BBQ.

Testing will be at the wand cuff with the same 12" wand and digital vac gauge.

I am thinking 50ft. of hose for the ETM, and 100 ft for the gas TM.

Is John from Mytee coming?

With Terje, Nick, Cooper, you and maybe Jay the only ones going, I'm afraid the results may be sqUed.

Unlike your Fests . . .

We will get some accurate & meaningful Test Results.

I think the ETM will win @ 50ft. . .

so we will probably also test both the ETM and #33 TM @ 100 ft.

Yeah...I'm thinking that too...funny isn't it.

What I don't understand though is how your test really provide relevant info or what "winning" actually is..........

Measuring open CFM and closed inHG completely disregards the ability of a system to perform "work".

hell, if lived in reasonable driving distance, I'd go to hang out for the fun of it.
Nick's al'ite with me...so's Cobby for that matter .
I can hang and have a good time with those boot scootin rednecks :icon_cool:

the so called "tests" are silly though, cause they're rarely set up right for any "meaningful" evaluation results .

Start with bone dry waste tanks and measured amounts of fresh water .
Clean two exact same DRY carpets with same wand, hoses and operator .
(same operator is important, cause wanding style can make a huge difference)

Then measure recovered water

That would be as close as one could get to evaluating performance

Hi Guys:

Here’s how you can unbiasedly check a CFV/lift curve. Although I have a CFM meter that is clear plastic and can be used while cleaning-you don't have to have one. And because my meter can get scratched I do not use it “inline”.

First notice what the lift (resistance) gauge reads when cleaning a cut-pile carpet is operating at (about 7). Then notice the same on a level loop (about 10). Anywhere therein is OK to compare to.

Now set up your test units with hose- it doesn’t matter how much because you’re going to provide the resistance. Hook up your CFM meter to the hose and then partially cap it off so that it reads wherever you want your resistance @ (7 is suggested). Now read your CFM. That reading will be the same for that unit if it’s operating like this-or really cleaning carpet with resistance from the wand seal. Compare that to other units and you have a CFM under load curve.

In my opinion an electric TM with a alternator (if the vac could compare to a blower) would be awesome simply because the maintenance is so much lower. Also the difference in change an electric vac, and a blower is huge. As mentioned in a below post- the blower manufacturers have no problem in making only cast iron blowers- for a wet industry since they get no encouragement (from our TM manufactures’) to offer it in partial ceramic-or plastic (which will not lock up from rust).

Sincerely,

Dale

I think the tests are great and while they may not accomplish anything of real value, cleaners still would like to know how they compare. If you were within a few hours driving distance it would definitely be worth attending.

I would say a 50-foot test is a joke though, when would you van ever be close enough that 50-ft would reach from the drive to inside the house. Pointless.

You might as well do a 10-ft, 15-ft and 25-ft too.

I would like to see the ETM measured up to 200 feet, with and without booster. I don't see the point in a 50 ft test when 95% of our rig outs is between 100-150 ft.

As I said over on the "allsixofus" board (and was promptly banned), the only people who push the utility of an electric portable bolted into a van (and call it a "TM") are those who stand to finacially gain by the selling those units.

The rest of us recognize they would be nice to own if they compared favorably with a 36 blower, but we live in the real world and know they don't.

Marty;

We sell both types of TM's . . .

A conventional TM has a higher dollar value than a ETM.

I think The Escape will be fairly close to the #36 blower TM.

The Escape ETM are fairly hot items in today's market.

I'm sure we will test both @ 100 ft.

But remember the ETM is on wheels, and can be rolled into a closer location.

Larry

P.S. New Escapes are shipping to us on April 12th.

welp...wouldn't a hi-performance PORTY that's MADE to be portable be a better option?
AND cost less??
AND be less cumbersome to move in and out??

I'm not sure I understand the concept or virtue when a hi-perf porty with auto fill and pump out will do the same for le$$
as well as being less cumbersome/awkward

What am I missing, Lar?
I'm serious , maybe YOU can explain it to me better than John

No high performance has the raw Vac Power of the Escape.

Some customers like to leave the machine in the Truck for most jobs,

only rolling it out for hi-rise and lock-in jobs.

Closest you could get would be our Breeze 84,

with a 3-stage Booster.

Hot item!

Thats awesome!

For you, for Terje and for Savage.

Larry how many have you sold so far?

Who is the typical user?
How many jobs per day are they averaging?
Their number one reason for buying a ETM is?
What is the most common vehicle they are being placed in?
Are most units getting installed along with a generator?

If a guy looking for a new cleaning machine is on the fence over a 3 series or an ETM what leverage do YOU use to get them to go either way?

We have only sold a couple up to this date.
Production is just now getting up to speed.
Cleaner Interest has definitely increased.

Who is the typical user?
Cleaner who wants machine to be truckmounted.

Their number one reason for buying a ETM is?
More vacuum & pump power.

What is the most common vehicle they are being placed in?
Van
Are most units getting installed along with a generator?
No

We don't push one over the other.
Being able to use the ETM on all the jobs, seems to carry some weight.

All the jobs except the ones with electricity?
or the ones 300 feet out?

Not sure I can think of a situation where I could use a truckmounted ETM that I couldn't use a "real" TM...?
